India wins Blind Cricket WC; Sports Min praises

New Delhi: India defeated arch-rival Pakistan to win the fourth edition of Blind Cricket World Cup in South Africa on Monday.

Indians got the better off defending champions Pakistan in a thrilling run chase to bring home country’s maiden Blind cricket world cup title.

Holders Pakistan has set India a daunting task of chasing a target of 390 runs and the Indian batsmen achieved the goal after some initial hiccups with two balls and five wickets to share.

Ajay Reddy and Prakasha Jayaramaiah put on an unbeaten 133 run partnership for the sixth wicket to change the course of the finale that looked like going towards Pakistan till then.

Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday congratulated the Indian team for winning their first ever Blind Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

“India’s maiden triumph in the Blind Cricket World Cup shows that these players are not only talented but have the ability to be the best in the world,” said Sonowal in a statement.

The Ministry had passed on their best wishes to the Indian Blind Cricket team before they left for South Africa and had extended support for the team.

“The results of the team makes everyone in India proud of them. We will be felicitating the players once they are back in India,” Sonowal added. (UNI)
