Fake degree racket busted in Agra, two held

Agra: Two persons were held here for their alleged involvement in a fake degree racket in Dr BR Ambedkar University here, police said on Tuesday. Manoj Tiwari, principal of Shanti Devi College, Mainpuri and his accomplice Brijesh Baghel were arrested Monday from Tiwari’s residence, Inspector Arjun Singh said. Fake mark sheets of BA, MA and B.Ed along with a laptop containing information pertaining to fake mark sheets were also seized from them, he said. “The accused admitted of being involved into the crime for around fifteen years and having cheated around 300 students so far by making fake degrees available to them,” Singh said. He also revealed names of few others who were allegedly involved in the racket, Singh said adding, efforts are on to nab them. (PTI)

Ancient idols stolen from Himachal temple

Kullu/Dharamsala: Ancient ashtadhatu idols of Lord Rama, Hanuman along with idols made of gold and silver of other deities worth crores of rupees were stolen by thieves from Raghunathji temple at Sultanpur in Rupi Palace at Kullu, police said Tuesday. Thieves stolen the ashtadhatu idols of Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman, a gold locket and a chain, a gold-plated Narsinh Shila (stone), silver idol of lord Ganesh and some other articles of worship last night, police said. A case has been registered on the statement of Devinder Singh, son of Maheshwar Singh, MLA, who is also caretaker of the deity, they said, adding that SP along with team of forensic experts have reached the spot and started investigations. A massive manhunt has been launched and the interstate borders have been sealed but the police was not sure whether the culprits are still within the state. The idols of Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman were brought from Ayodhya to Kullu in 1651 during the regime of Raja Jagat Singh. (PTI)

Burglars loot Rs 32 lakh from bank in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Burglars struck at a state-run rural bank at Jeedimetla here and made away with Rs 32 lakh in cash, police said on Tuesday. The culprits entered the bank by breaking the window grill last night and used gas cutters to break open the cash safe before taking away Rs 32 lakh, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rama Rajeshwari R said. The burglars also broke open two individual lockers and took away the contents, she said. (PTI)
