SHILLONG: Police have arrested seven persons in connection with an assault case involving members of the village dorbar of Umiuh Tmar village near Pynursla.

Informing this here on Monday, East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said that investigation was still on.

It may be recalled a 16-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted on December 2 after the secretary of the village dorbar issued a summon notice asking him to report to the community hall of the village at 4 pm.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) chairperson Meena Kharkongor has said that the members of the village dorbar of Umiuh Tmar village near Pynursla have admitted their involvement in the assault of the boy, who was accused of working as a spy for BSF.

“During my visit to the village to assess the ground reality last week, the Rangbah Shnong of the village admitted that they had assaulted the youth,” Kharkongor said here on Monday.

She also informed that the Rangbah Shnong was also keen to have a compromise with the members of the aggrieved families.

“Village dorbar cannot take the law into its own hand,” she said.

The MCPCR chief said that the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) have completed recording statement of the youth, who is undergoing treatment at Shillong Civil Hospital.
