Manipur contestant emerges winner in NE Body Can Sing contest

SHILLONG: Hidangmayum Rahul Sharma from Manipur stole the show in All India Radio’s maiden music reality show in the North East titled “NE Body Can Sing” which came to an end with a grand finale at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Tuesday evening.

29-year-old Sharma from AIR Imphal, who was adjudged the winner of the contest, took home a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Chandrani Sarma of AIR Agartala bagged the second prize while Visedelhou of AIR Kohima and Lalfamkima of AIR Aizawl filled in the third and fourth spots. Sarma took home a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while Visedelhou and Lalfamkima were handed over Rs 25000 and Rs 20000 respectively.

Rahul Sharma, who hails from Bishnupur District of Manipur, is a Sangeet Visharad from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith Lucknow and is a recipient of several awards.

Earlier, contestants from across the North East battled it out in the grand finale here. Addressing the gathering on the occasion Governor KK Paul said that music is the soul of North East.

Lauding AIR the Governor said, “AIR has reached far flung areas of the country and has created a niche in the North East.”

Earlier, ADG, AIR North Eastern Region, C Lalrosanga said that the aim of the reality show was to bring the hidden talent of NE to limelight.

F Lal Thanmawiia, Aribam Uttam Sharma and Lou Majaw formed the judges’ panel for the contest.

All prizes barring the fourth prize were sponsored by the State Bank of India. The fourth prize was sponsored by IRCTC.
