U-15 football tournament 2015

SHILLONG: The Shillong Sports Association will conduct the ‘U-15 Football Tournament 2015’ for all its affiliated Clubs from the first week of February 2015. This Tournament will be the continuation of the U-14 Football Tournament which was held in February 2014. Clubs willing to participate can prepare their team accordingly and can collect details about the tournament from the Office of the Association between 3pm to 5pm from 5 to 10 January 2015.

Ankita, Prarthana in women’s tennis second round

Pune: Ankita Raina and Prarthana Thombare entered the second round of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) women’s $25,000 tennis tournament at the Deccan Gymkhana here Tuesday. Raina beat compatriot Rutuja Bhosale 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (6) while Prarthana Thombare defeated Katarzyna Kawa of Poland 6-2, 6-1. But the highlight of the day was the valiant fight of Mihika Yadav, who went down fighting 5-7,5-7 against Ukraine’s Veronika Kepshay. (PTI)

Gagan, Samaresh, Anjali in line for gold in Shooting Nationals

Pune: Olympic medallist Gagan Narang and veterans Samaresh Jung and Anjali Bhagwat lined themselves up for gold medals in their respective events at the 58th National Shooting Championships here on Tuesday. Gagan, representing Air India, was lying third at the end of the first day of competition in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event with a score of 1163 at the Balewadi Shooting Range. Veterans Samaresh Jung and Anjali Bhagwat were also lying in identical fourth position in the men’s 25m Centre Fire Pistol and women’s 10m Air Rifle events respectively. All finals are slated for the concluding day tomorrow. Gagan will have to counter the challenge from Armymen Satyendra Singh and Chain Singh who, with scores of 1168 and 1164, were occupying the top two slots at the end of day one of their respective events. Tripura in a chance for a win against Jharkhand

Dhanbad: Tripura placed themselves in a strong position to force a win over Jharkhand as they piled on 362 all out in their first innings before their bowlers reduced the home side to 127 for 5 at close of third day in their Ranji Trophy cricket match here on Tuesday. Resuming the penultimate day at 227 for six, Tripura added another 135 runs today with overnight batsmen Abhijit Dey (65) and Kaushal Acharjee (61) hitting half centuries. Captain Dey and Acharjee shared 111 runs for the seventh wicket as Tripura took a 220-run first innings lead. Dey consumed 204 balls for his 65 which he made with the help of seven boundaries while Acharjee’s 61 came from 133 balls and was studded with six fours and a six. For Jharkhand, Shahbaz Nadeem grabbed four wickets for 68 while Samar Quadri got three wickets. Jharkhand now trail by 93 runs with just five second innings wickets in hand. (PTI)
