The incident was reported to police on February 5 last year. The police had arrested the accused three days after the incident and submitted charge sheet within two months.
According to police, a day before the incident, the couple had a quarrel and the lady was severely assaulted.
Somehow, they escaped and took shelter in a neighbouring house. On the following day, the victim lodged a complaint with a local CPI-M leader Shankar Mandal and happened to be a cousin brother of her husband Biswajit.
Biswajit told police that in the evening, both the convict planned to kill the victim. Shankar was sent to pick up the victim with false information that Biswajit met an accident.
