Guwahati: In view of the recent killings of adivasi and Bodo community people in Assam, a consultation was jointly organised by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and All Adivashi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) with the theme of ‘Conflict, Sense of Insecurity & Growing Ethnic Imbalance in Assam’ here.
The event held yesterday was participated by hundreds of student activists, social workers, scholars, academician, writers and thinkers from across Assam, a press statement said.
The consultation was attended by some of the eminent scholars and activists such as Dr Anura-dha Dutta, an eminent scholar in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies, Prof Monirul Hussain, Writer and Scholar, Mr Santanu Borthakur, an advocate to the Guwahati High Court, Dr Monisha Behal, Dr Sanzay Borbora, Mr David Kujur and many other dignitaries.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr Dipen Boro of ABSU. Dr Dutta blamed succes-sive gover-nments for failing to protect the life and propertry of ethnic commu-nities in the state.
Dr Behal urged the youth to tap the opportu-nities that are available rather than remaining in the narrow confinement of their ethnic and social isolation.
Advocate Santhanu Borthakur said the sense of insecurity leading to repeated ethnic conflict can be resolved only through giving absolute rights of land and resources to the indigenous communities of Assam.
Mr Stefen Lakra and Mr Wilson Hasda, represen-ting, AASAA, both spoke how both communities acted with great restraint in the face of provocation this time and ensured that the violence did not spiral out of hand.
AASU president Sankar Prasad Roy called upon all leaders to devote their heart and soul in bringing peace and stability.
Mr Pramod Boro, President, ABSU, in his keynote address, said this joint initiative is being organized to highlight the thread of commonalities that all communities share. (UNI)
