Agartala:Ruling CPI(M) in Tripura has demanded withdrawal of the ‘Vision document’ of BJP in Delhi assembly election, which termed people of Northeastern states living in Delhi as ‘immigrant’.
Party state secretary Bijan Dhar stated that the language of words used in the poll promises of BJP party ahead of Delhi election had exposed the actual feeling and respect of the party towards the citizens of northeast region.
“It is a great insult to Indians as a whole because the fellow citizens of other parts of the country are being treated as immigrant by the party which came to power with thumping majority including the representation from the region itself,” Mr Dhar commented.
He alleged that harass-ment on the northeastern people in so called mainland India have increased by many fold in past eight months of BJP rule.
Only in last week, a group of 29 students from prestigious Handique Girls’ College of Assam was prevented from entering the Taj Mahal by the authorities because their faces were looking like Japanese, which has never happened in the country.
During the Republic Day parade at Rajpath a girl from Arunachal Pradesh was humiliated and harassed by the crowd by asking her nationality when Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself accompanied by his whole team was present, he alleged.
The crowd, which branded her as Chinese because of her facial features went to the extent of lodging complaints with the authorities asking as to how a foreigner was allowed to sit in gallery meant for Indians.
“Whatever, BJP tells to win over the heart of northeastern people; practically the party’s attitude is racial and communal. They never treat Indians from all the regions at par and the so called vision document proved it again,” Mr Dhar added.
“Northeastern region is a part and parcel of India and the citizens of the region who reside in Delhi are citizens of India. It is the right of every Indian citizen to stay anywhere in the country. Then how can the Northeasterns who reside in Delhi are treated as immigrants?” Chief Minister Manik Sarkar asked.
It is improper also to create misunderstanding and confusion among Indians; so the party sho-uld rectify it imme-diately respecting India’s Consti-tution, he insisted. (UNI)
