JOWAI: Hundreds of coal-laden trucks were made to return to their respective coal depots as the District Administrations of West Jaintia Hills prevented them from transporting coal following the expiry of the deadline for transportation of coal as per the directive of the National Green Tribunal on Wednesday.
The West Jaintia Hills District Police along with the district administration effectively implemented the NGT order by sending back all trucks loaded with coal to their respective coal depots.
“Based on the order of the NGT, we are here to stop them (truckers) from transportation of coal to Assam,” said Addl. SP W. Muskor while speaking to this Correspondent at Shohshrieh – a border village between East and West Jaintia Hills.
A team of Police personnel led by the Addl. SP, Traffic In-Charge and others senior police officers along with a senior Additional District Magistrate were on duty after the end of the deadline at 5 pm on Wednesday and stopped over one hundred trucks from plying to Assam.
