Quarry mishap claims two girls

SHILLONG: Two girls of the same family including a minor were killed and another was injured when a quarry caved in at a village under Mawngap in East Khasi Hills on Friday evening.
According to police, a chunk of earth caved in while the girl identified as  Bareta Nongbet (19) along with two minors, Wanstar Nongbet (10) and Anisha Nongbet (14) were collecting stone chips  from a quarry at Umlangmar under Mawngap police out post.
As a result, Wanstar Nongbet died on the spot and the other two sustained injuries. They were shifted to PHC Mawphlang. However, the attending Medial officer declared Bareta Nongbet brought dead.  The injured Anisha Nongbet was later shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong.
