TURA: The proposed bandh in protest against the alleged vandalism by police at the office of the Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) has been postponed to April 7 after appeals were received from several quarters.
The decision to postpone the bandh was taken after threadbare deliberations taking into consideration the financial year ending and the complications related to it, which could affect the economic development of Garo Hills.
However, the ADE said that it was not satisfied with the claim of the administration and the Police department that action is being initiated against the culprits, as no names or proof of suspension of any personnel has been released so far.
It also pointed out that no action was being taken against those involved in the alleged fake encounter of Late Sengbath Ch Marak of Oragitok either by police or the District Administration.
“The bandh call represents the voice against all police atrocities and not against the isolated case of the vandalizing of the ADE office. Hence, we are merely deferring the bandh and not entirely dismissing it. We seek justice against all atrocities committed against the people of Garo Hills,” ADE president, Dalseng Bira Ch Momin said in a statement.
