Body of Indian killed in Yemen being brought back
Shimla: The government has informed the family of Manjeet Singh, of Himachal Pradesh who died in Yemen in a bomb blast, that the formalities relating to bringing his body back home are on.In an e-mail to the family, the ministry of external affairs on Sunday said: “Our control room in Djibouti has informed that paperwork and local formalities related to transportation of the body is expected to be completed on April 12.”After completion of the paperwork, arrangements to send the body by a commercial flight (perhaps Ethiopian Airways) would be made, it said.”If not possible today (April 12) due to non-availability of the flight, then the body will be sent by AI (Air India) special flight by tomorrow (Monday). The control room has also deputed the fellow companion of the late Manjeet Singh, Amarjeet Singh, who is from Aden, to accompany the mortal remains,” it said.Manjeet Singh, who was working on merchant vessel Gulf Dove in Yemen, sustained shrapnel injuries in Aden harbour.The victim’s brother-in-law, Amit Thakur, said the body was sent from Aden to Djibouti by an Indian vessel, INS Tarkash.Son of a former Indian Army officer, Manjeet Singh, the youngest of four siblings, belonged to Chamboh village in Bhoranj sub-division, some 25 km from district headquarters Hamirpur. He had been at sea for two months.He is survived by his wife and two daughters — one aged three years and the other just two months.  (IANS)
BSF lodges protest over suspected Pak UAV
Jaisalmer:  A suspected unmanned air vehicle (UAV) has been sighted along the Indo-Pak border in the western region during the recent days following which BSFon Sunday lodged a strong protest with Pakistani Rangers. The BSF submitted a “protest note” to Pakistan rangers for alleged surveillance on the activities of Indian border forces and security measures by unmanned air vehicle (UAV) during night in recent days, a senior BSF official said. After holding a flag meeting of BSF jawans and officials of Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar districts, the protest note was handed over to the Pakistan rangers at Silvi post, near here, the official of BSF Commandant Office said. BSF jawans had noticed a spark of red light during night across from the border and it was most probably a Pakistani UAV snooping on border activities in the western part of India, the official said while quoting the protest note. While during day, the UAV was observed like a smoke line in the sky within 200-300 metre over the boundary, the official said. When contacted, the BSF DIG in Jodhpur, Ravi Gandhi said such UAV activity was observed during night on the Indo-Pak border’s western area. It was seen roaming in the sky by BSF jawans, and the protest note to this effect was submitted to Pak rangers at Silvi post today, he said. (PTI)
Two Uzbek women arrested
Maharajganj: Two women, both nationals of Uzbekistan, were arrested at India-Nepal border area here as they were trying to enter the country without valid papers, a senior official said. Kul Nara and Kul Khoyu Gufurwa, both from Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent, were found roaming in Kolhi bus stand area in the district last evening when the police asked for their details and passport. They had no passports and were later arrested by the immigration department in Sonauli area, Superintendent of Police Shiv Hari Meena said, adding that the women were on way to India from Kathmandu (Nepal). A case has been registered and intelligence agencies have been informed about the matter, Meena said. (PTI)
Cab driver held in Rajasthan for molesting British woman
Jaipur:  Rajasthan Police have arrested a taxi driver for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old British woman here, officials said on Sunday.”We have arrested taxi driver Salim on a complaint filed by a British tourist on early Saturday. He was arrested under Section 354 of IPC (Indian Penal Code). He was sent to judicial custody,” a police official, Brahmpuri station, told IANS.”We have recorded the statement of the tourist and her colleague. The driver hails from Todabhim in Karauli district of Rajasthan, and works in Delhi,” the official said.The crime took place on Friday night.In February, a 20-year-old Japanese woman filed a complaint in Dudu police station, accusing a tout of raping her. Dudu is located over 60 km from Jaipur.The incident occurred on February 8. The Japanese tourist was on a tour to Jaipur when a person on a motorbike approached her and offered his service as a guide. (IANS)
Son murders mother in UP
Saharanpur: A 21-year-old man allegedly strangulated his mother to death after beating her up, police said today. The incident took place last night at Fandpuri village and the main accused has been nabbed, they said. The son, Amit Singh, claimed that his mother Pushpa had illicit relationship with someone. This prompted him to kill her, Saharanpur SSP Nitin Tiwari said. Amit’s father, Rajeev Singh, claimed that incident happened due to some family disputes, police said. Rajeev has registered a complaint with the police. The body has been sent for postmortem and police are further probing the matter, police said. (PTI)
