Shops gutted in fire

NONGPOH: As many as 12 to 13 shops were gutted in fire that broke out at around 8 PM in the Umtrai village market in Ri Bhoi on Saturday.
According to information received by The Shillong Times, fire left unattended in a tea stall in the same market led to the devastation.
Though fire tenders rushed to the spot without much delay, fire engulfed the wooden structures in no time to cause the damage. According to sources, the fire resulted in an estimated loss of Rs 65,000. No injury or loss of life was reported.
