Guwahati: The ailing octogenarian Miliki Baruah, mother of the ULFA (Independent) commander-in-chief fugitive Paresh Baruah on Thursday declined to accept Rs one lakh assistance offered by Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi for her medical treatment.
In a statement made on behalf of the ailing Miliki Baruah, her three other sons said that their mother had declined to accept financial assistance offered by Assam chief minister and instead suggested that the amount may be utilized for providing succor to flood-affected people of the state.
“Our mother is now old and is staring at her end. So, she doesn’t want any help from the government at this stage of her life,” the sons stated at their Jeraigaon residence in Dibrugarh district of Assam.
Gogoi on Wednesday offered Rs one lakh financial assistance to ailing social worker Miliki Baruah and safe passage to her son Paresh Barua, the ULFA (I) leader to meet her at their ancestral home.
Regarding the chief minister Gogoi’s offer of safe passage to the ULFA (I) leader Paresh Baruah to visit his ailing mother, the brothers of ULFA leader stated that the government should work out a long-term plan for home coming of Paresh Baruah. They said there was whiff of politics behind the chief minister’s offer of safe passage to the ULFA leader.
Meanwhile, in an e-mailed statement issued to a couple of local TV channel, the ULFA (I) leader Paresh Baruah begged for apology from his ailing mother for his inability to see her at this moment of time.
