SHILLONG: The second phase of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) has not been receiving expected response from the public in East Khasi Hills District.
Sources informed that so far around 40,000-45,000 households only have been enrolled in East Khasi Hills District whereas the second phase of the scheme has generated huge response in other districts.
According to the sources, greater involvement of headman in the enrolment process was the need of the hour in order to improve the enrolment figures.
It is learnt that the Union Ministry of health & Family Welfare has approved an extension for the enrolment process till October 31 for East Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills districts.
According to the sources, around three lakh households have been covered under the scheme in the entire State.
MHIS-II targets to cover as many as 7,59,515 households in Meghalaya with the policy period commencing from August 1, 2015.
