SHILLONG: While the Centre is making attempts to strengthen ties with neighboring Bangladesh through various initiatives including the recent Land Swap deal, confirmation from the Border Security Force about the steep decline in cross border smuggling of counterfeit currency hints at improved relations between both nations.
The BSF in a recent conference of Inspector General Border Security Force and Regional Commander Border Guards Bangladesh discussed the problem of fake Indian currency note (FICN) being smuggled into the country and both sides assured cooperation to each other.
“There is a massive decline in the cross border smuggling of FICN,” the BSF PRO said.
It may be mentioned that the problem of counterfeit currency finding its way into the country had long plagued its economy. The BSF in the last few years has seized lakhs of fake notes that was being smuggled from Bangladesh.
However, according to the BSF official, this year only one seizure was made so far. He further said that information about FICN is shared with the Bangladeshi counterparts.
