Bhubaneswar: The Odisha police today began a fresh investigation into the mysterious death of a youth from Manipur after the family members of the deceased alleged that their relative was killed.
“Though initially the incident was registered as a case of unnatural death, now the police has accepted it as a murder case. A murder case has been registered at the Capital Police Station here,” commissioner of police R P Sharma said.
An additional DCP rank officer will probe the matter and a preliminary report is expected within three days, Sharma said.
The body of L Poumai (23), a resident of Manipur was found hanging in the premises of the official quarters of an OAS officer in Unit-6 in Bhubaneswar on December 2.
The body of the youth has been sent to Cuttack for a fresh autopsy, he said. The commissioner said that the family members of the deceased youth have suspected foul play in the death and have lodged an FIR at the Capital police station alleging murder. (PTI)
