Gurgaon: A 29-year-old man from Manipur was allegedly assaulted and cuffed by a group of local residents in Chakarpur village in Gurgaon area, police informed on Thursday.
The victim, identified as one Bruce .K. Thangkhal is by profession,the media in-charge of North East Support Centre and Helpline (NESCH) as well as a youth leader in Manipur.
Bruce .K.Thangkhal suffered serious head and eye injuries, and has been admitted to Sanjivini hospital here where his condition is said to be stable, police informed agencies on Thursday.
The accused persons involved in the crime could not be identified yet. According to the complaint registered by Bruce .K.Thangkhal, he was walking with two of his friends on M.G Road here on Wednesday at around 10 pm when a group of six to seven locals started making taunting remarks on him and his friends.
When he objected, the men, who were said to be in an inebriated state, abused and attacked Thangkhal with sticks and iron rods.
Later, the victim collapsed on the road, police said.
He was rushed to the hospital by North East Support Centre and Helpline (NESCH) members, who also met East Gurgaon DCP Deepak Saharan in this connection.
Not less than 100 members staged a protest outside Sector-29 police station, they said.
“We have formed teams and are conducting investigation to nab the accused persons. They are not yet identified.
“We have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC in sector-29 police station and will take prompt action against the accused persons. No arrest was made till now,” Saharan added. (PTI)
