SHILLONG: The representation of women in the Meghalaya frontier of Border Security Force is negligible.
Speaking on the matter, BSF Meghalaya frontier, Public Relations Officer said that in Meghalaya, it is quite difficult to deploy women personnel considering that the border is located in far flung areas.
It may be mentioned that at the moment, BSF Meghalaya frontier has only around 8-10 women personnel.
Reacting to a query, the BSF official said that women personnel are deployed in border haats.
“The women personnel are mostly positioned in BSF headquarters,” he added.
He, however, said that now women recruits are in the force and a few girls from Garo Hills have joined the force.
The Border Security Force had first inducted women constables for regular security duties in 2009 and at present it has more than 700 such personnel in the entire country.
Last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs had also taken a decision in deploying 26 female constables, most from Maharashtra for five sensitive Indo-Bangladesh border points of Tripura.
