NEWDELHI: A group of journalists from different newspapers of Meghalaya based in Shillong concluded the familiarization programme in parliamentary processes and procedures for media persons here on Friday.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Meghalaya Assembly Speaker A T Mondal who initiated the week long programme said that such orientation courses will also be organized by the state Assembly and the Bureau of Studies and Training (BPST) for the scribes of both Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills very soon.
Authorities from BPST had earlier visited Meghalaya Assembly and held such programmes which were beneficial, he said.
Among others both the Lok Sabha MPs P. A. Sangma and Vincent H Pala met the visiting scribes and interacted with them. The journalists were part of a group of scribes from the North East accredited to the respective state Governments and Assemblies.
Mondal said that such programmes will bring out a sort of effective partnership between Parliament and the Media. This will also further consolidate parliamentary democracy in the states and the whole country.
Orientation Programmes in parliamentary practices and procedures are organized at least once every year exclusively for media personnel. Eminent parliamentarians, veteran media persons and senior parliamentary officials interacted with the media fraternity during the orientation programmes
