SHILLONG: After several delays and numerous controversies, the abattoir at Mawlai Mawroh is finally complete and ready for inauguration in January.
Informing this here on Monday, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Deborah Marak said the project is fully completed and only a date is required to be fixed for the inauguration.
“I will find out from the chief minister when he is free and we will inaugurate it,” Marak said. Once the abattoir becomes fully functional, Shillongites can enjoy clean and hygienic meat.
The abattoir has been constructed at a cost of Rs.22 crore by the Rapsang Group of Companies, Shillong, in collaboration with Real Growth Company, Chennai.
The State government has already notified members of a management committee which will oversee the operations of the slaughter house at Mawlai Mawiong.
The abattoir will have a capacity for slaughtering 160 large animals, 240 pigs and 240 small animals (goats) each day.
