SHILLONG: The District Magistrate Ri Bhoi District has passed a prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC restricting all unauthorized persons, middlemen along with their private vehicles from stationing, loitering in and around the Umling Integrated Check gate and diversion of coal trucks away from the designated route which is National Highway 40.
Any violators will be prosecuted under the relevant section of the law, the deputy commissioner said.
“This order has been issued in view that certain unscrupulous elements manifesting as middlemen have been found loitering and operating in and around the Umling Integrated Check gate with an ulterior motive of diverting the ongoing traffic of coal laden trucks from the Integrated Check gate without the subsequent mandatory payment of sales tax to the authorities concerned and thereby causing huge loss of revenue to the government.
In another prohibitory order, the district magistrate has banned the construction and operation of the makeshift stalls all along the National Highway 40 for illicit stockpiling as well as sale of coal by all concerned.
The deputy dommissioner said the order was passed since a number of makeshift stalls have sprung up overnight all along the National Highway 40 catering to the stockpiling and sale of coal which has been offloaded from coal laden trucks en route for the integrated check gate at Umling.
