Headmen start poster campaign
SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council extended their support to Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) demand to de-notify the Government’s proposed amendment to Meghalaya Services (Conduct) rules.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, KHADC CEM PN Syiem said, “We are hopeful that the Government de-notifies the amendment rules.”
It may be mentioned that the SNSBH has served a February 5 ultimatum to the State Government in a meeting convened at Wahingdoh Dorbar Hall recently.
In connection to the declaration of black flag day on January 29, he appealed to the village chiefs, the various localities to participate and join the protest against the State Cabinet’s decision to amend the Meghalaya Services (Conduct) Rules.
Syiem informed that in the KHADC session to be held in February, the District Council has proposed to rename the Federation of Traditional Dorbar as Council of Traditional Dorbar, following the passage of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Constitution of Council of Traditional Dorbar, 2016.
Meanwhile, the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) held a poster campaign on January 26. Aggrieved over the Meghalaya High Court order recommending the State Government to frame laws to empower traditional heads in the state and slamming the State Government for its proposed amendment to Meghalaya Services (Conduct) rules, the Synjuk decided to conduct a poster campaign in every locality with slogans such as “Leave our traditional institutions alone”, “Government employees are nobody’s slaves”, “What is Terra Madre for when you are not interested to even protect your own,” etc.
