Agreement on rail communication with Pakistan extended

NEW DELHI: The agreement on rail communication between India and Pakistan has been extended by three years till January 18, 2019, the government announced on Friday. “The agreement between the governments of India and Pakistan relating to rail communication has been extended by mutual consent through diplomatic channels for the period of three years from January 19, 2016, to January 18, 2019,” the exernal affairs ministry said in a statement. “The agreement, signed on June 28, 1976, enables India-Pakistan rail communication both in respect of goods and passenger traffic,” it added. As of now, passenger and goods traffic operates on the Delhi-Lahore route via Attari-Wagah, and passenger traffic between Jodhpur and Karachi via MunabaoKhokhrapar. (IANS)
