Shibun sends Dipayan packing

SHILLONG: In a major reshuffle in the party, the Meghalaya unit of the BJP on Tuesday removed its long time general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty from his post and appointed two others in his place even as 48 others were inducted as executive members.
According to a party statement, David Kharsati and Pramod Koch were given charges as general secretaries while Edmund Sangma and D D Sohphoh were made national council members by the newly appointed party president Shibun Lyngdoh.
The party president has also appointed five vice presidents and five secretaries.
While Egenstar Kurkalang retained the Yuva Morcha president post, Fairly B Kharrngi was made Kisan Morcha president and Rocky R Marak as Kisan Morcha general secretary.
The reshuffle within the party is significant in view of the 2018 assembly elections in the state.
Reacting to the decision of the party, Chakraborty said (he would fulfill whatever responsibility the party assigns him.
Former president of the party Khlur Singh is accommodated in the State Executive body.
Anil Kumar Hajong has been appointed  as the vice president, North Garo Hills District while Billykid Sangma  has been  appointed vice president, South Garo Hills District.
Interestingly, Sikkim Manipal University Shillong Learning Centre director Gagan Jain has now been appointed as vice president, Administration.
Some members of the party, meanwhile, have expressed their reservations on the new party setup.
They said that they were unhappy as they were not even consulted before overhauling the party.
