SHILLONG:  After the driver of the tourist taxi that collided with the official vehicle of Chief Minister, was booked under 307 IPC, former KHADC chief Adelbert Nongrum decried the manner in which the situation was handled.
In a statement issued to the media, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) president Nongrum questioned the State Government and the police as to the action taken against militants who are roaming free despite being booked under several criminal acts.
He cited the example of Julius Dorphang, ex-chairman of the banned HNLC, other leaders of ANVC, and ANVC-B.
He also questioned the delay on booking cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh following the CBI report on education and building scams.
He said that the arrest of the driver reveals a case of harassment of the poor and the needy.
The KHNAM leader pointed out that the collision between cars revealed  the irresponsibility of the escort or security personnel accompanying the Chief Minister’ convoy and booking the driver is an act to please the Chief Minister.
He alleged that Sangma is misusing his power to convince the police to arrest the driver even as there was only a slight scratch in the vehicle as evident from the pictures, and added that accidents are happening daily.
