SHILLONG: The CBSE has allowed Shubham Prasad, Class X student of BK Bajoria School, to write his board examination.
In response to the order of the single bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on February 23, Thongkholet Mate, Assistant Secretary (Legal), CBSE, Regional Office, Guwahati, appeared on behalf of the CBSE in the court on Friday and produced the letter dated February 25 addressed to the Centre Superintendent, BSF Senior Secondary School, Umpling, to allow the student to write the CBSE Board examination beginning on March 2.
Earlier, on Monday, taking a suo moto case, Acting Chief Justice S.R. Sen had directed the School Principal, Education and CBSE officials to be present in the court on Tuesday after the student, wrote a letter to the Court regarding the alleged refusal on the part of the School to allow him to sit for CBSE board examination instead of ‘Home’ examination.
The student in the letter said that he had appeared for half-yearly examinations in September and had got very less marks and added that though he had requested for re-correction of paper, no action was taken by the school. However, the School had denied the allegations of the student by stating that Shubham had opted for ‘Home’ examination which is also conducted by CBSE, while filling in the form and added that he gave no written application asking for a change in the status of the examination from ‘Home’ to ‘Board’.
The School had also said that as far as the issue of the re-correction/re-evaluation of the students’ papers was concerned, they were re-examined and no discrepancies were found.
During the hearing on Friday, the Court said that it appears that CBSE has allowed the petitioner to sit for the CBSE examination and one Mausumi Dhar, office staff of the School also appeared in the court.
“The officer of the CBSE submits before the Court that though they received the examination fee, they did not receive the application for change of scheme from S-I (School based) to S-II (Board based), hence, the confusion arises. I warn the school authorities to be careful in future keeping in mind that it is a question of career of the student,” the Court said.
