SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) has confirmed that the proscribed GNLA is recruiting people in Bangladesh even as it refuted the reports about HNLC carrying out similar drives.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, PK Dubey, IG, BSF’s Meghalaya Frontier, said that there was no permanent camp of insurgent groups in Bangladesh, even though the most of the makeshift camps were in Chittagong area.
According to him, GNLA militants were on the run following the ongoing ‘Operation Hillstorm 3’, launched by Meghalaya Police. “BSF has sanctioned two additional battalions for counter insurgency operations,” he said adding that “militancy is under control in Meghalaya.”
When asked about ULFA leader Drishti Rajkhowa’s presence in Bangladesh, the BSF official said that he did not have any information about his location.
The BSF official rued that they were not getting land to establish their battalion headquarters in Meghalaya. “If we don’t proper infrastructure, our effectiveness gets affected,” he said.
