SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council Nongthliew Circle has alleged that even after 5 years the Public Health Engineering (PHE), Mairang division was unable to implement the Kharthangmaw Umthlong water supply scheme at Kharthangmaw village.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Joplang Kharnaior, president, HYC Nongthliew said he had filed an RTI with regard to the implementation of the scheme at 3 villages which include Kharthangmaw, Umthlong and Mawkhroh Dewsaw.
Kharnaior claimed that the findings were misleading as the RTI stated that the implementation of the scheme is 100 per cent, he said, “It is not true as for 5 years Kharthangmaw and Umthlong villages are not getting adequate supply of water and the scheme is not implemented so far.”
He mentioned that the scheme was brought about in the year 2001 spending Rs70.64 lakh but since 2010 the scheme was not functioning in supplying water to the villages.
Kharnaior claimed that even pipes are not sufficiently provided to the villages.
The RTI further revealed that the reason for the inadequate supply of water was due to non-functional motor pump.
In this connection, the association has urged the concerned authorities to promptly take action and provide water supply to the villages or they would apprise higher authorities to examine the matter.
