SHILLONG: The District Police is facing a major challenge in fighting ‘Drug Abuse’. Apart from taking up criminal cases, the police are going all out to create awareness amongst youths and other stakeholders in schools, colleges, street corner meetings etc.
Police are taking up school teachers as partners in fighting the menace considering that youths spend a lot of time in classrooms.
In this regard an awareness programme was conducted for teachers from different schools of the city at Police Officer’s Club, Police Reserve here on Friday.
The aim of the programme was to sensitise the teachers about the problem and alert them on how to take note if there are indications of drug abuse amongst the students so that corrective action can be taken immediately.
They were also sensitized on cyber crime so that they can guide the students on how to take precautions whenever they are in social media and also take precautions against fake institutions.
