115th anniv of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Shillong observed
SHILLONG: Governor V. Shanmuganathan on Wednesday advised the students to practice selflessness in their day to day life.
Addressing the commemorative function to mark the 115th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Shillong and the foundation day of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Shillong, on Wednesday, the Governor recalled the selfless services of Swami Vivekananda and his sacrifices and dedication toward the society.
“The student community should practice selflessness in their day to day life and there is also a need to practice and follow the path of self righteousness,” he added. Earlier, the Governor lighted the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the celebration and also handed over a citation and cash award to Prakash Joshi, who was named the best teacher of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Shillong. This was followed by a variety of cultural programmes performed by the students.
R.M. Mishra, Principal Secretary, Planning department, Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj, Assistant General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal, Swami Achyuteshanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong, Swami Madhuranandaji Maharaj, Computer Department in charge, teachers and students were present on the occasion.
Earlier in the week, a numbers of programmes were organized by the Cultural Centre which included drawing and painting, inspirational speeches, colourful exhibition of the students’ artworks, spiritual retreat and annual programme of Sanskrit and value base educational programme for children of the Institute.
It may be mentioned that on April 23, as part of the celebration, about 200 newly admitted students had their invocation.
