SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India has yet again reprimanded Congress candidate for Tura by poll, Dikkanchi Shira for her hate speeches in two public meetings on May 2.
The EC had earlier censured Shira for her hate speech in one of the election campaigns at Dadenggre play ground, West Garo Hills on the same date.
Dikkanchi without naming Conrad Sangma and PA Sangma had said at Dadenggre play ground that, “Now his son has joined hands with those who are persecuting Christians”.
This had brought the wrath of EC prompting action against her.
According to a notification posted at the EC’s website on May 18, further damaging were the comments made by Shira in public campaigns at two locations at Damal Asim and Dolonggre in West Garo Hills district on the same day.
At Damal Asim, Shira had said, “Even Christians are being killed and horrible things are being done. We are only hearing all these things, but we don’t know when and which day such terrible things will happen to us as well. The Christians were oppressed during the BJP Government. BJP is communal.”
The EC in its notification has re-produced the translation version of speech made by Shira during the campaign at Dolonggre which was, “They are oppressing various low class people. BJP is persecuting, killing the Christians. It seems that on Good Friday one priest was nailed on the cross. He did not die but he must have suffered a lot. And a sister/nun was also nailed on the cross”.
After examining these speeches, and not satisfied with the reply given by the Congress party and the candidate, the EC has reprimanded Shira.
The Returning Officer had already filed an FIR against Shira for the hate speeches and the investigation is on.
Probe into video clip
Meanwhile, police are probing the video clip of MPYC chief Richard Marak casting vote for Congress candidate Dikkanchi Shira as posted in his facebook account on May 16.
The Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Pravin Bakshi said on Thursday that  after a notice was issued for violation of model code of conduct, Richcard replied by saying that his facebook account was hacked by someone
“However, we have asked police to probe further into the matter,” Bakshi said.
