Guwahati: The first consignment comprising of 60 MT Type-II Paraffin Wax was flagged off to Rok Industries, Kenya, from Assam’s Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) Marketing Terminal on Tuesday.
Director (Technical) NRL SR Medhi, in presence of senior officials of the Company, flagged off the consignment, an NRL release said here today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dedicated NRL’s Wax Plant to the Nation on February 5 last.
The 50,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) Wax Plant commissioned in March 2015 at a cost of Rs 676 crores is the country’s largest wax producing unit with indigenous technology developed by IIP Dehradun, EIL and NRL.
Since commissioning of the Wax plant, NRL has emerged as the largest manufacturer and marketer of wax in the country with a market share of more than 52 per cent.
Leveraging on the inherent properties of wax rich crude oil from the oil fields of Assam, the plant is designed to produce superior quality paraffin and microcrystalline wax and is a worthy manifestation of the ‘Make in India’ campaign of the Government of India.
Till now, a major part of the country’s annual demand for Paraffin Wax along with the entire demand for Microcrystalline Wax was being met through imports.
NRL’s Wax plant has minimized the supply deficit in the domestic market substantially, thus reducing imports. The utility of Paraffin Wax lies in making candles, tarpaulin sheets, food grade wrappers and in PVC pipe manufacturing industries while Microcrystalline Wax finds widespread application in the manufacture of tyres, rubber products, paints and polishes, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
