SHILLONG: The examination of witnesses in the case of illegal entry into India by Bangladesh politician Salahuddin Ahmed is over. Public prosecutor IC Jha informed that altogether 10 witnesses were examined by the prosecution.
During the hearing of the case on Friday, two doctors from Civil Hospital were examined.
In the next hearing, the date for which is yet to be fixed, the statement of the accused will be recorded under section 313 of CrPC.
It may be mentioned that Ahmed is facing trial for his illegal entry into Meghalaya on May 21 last year which had led to his arrest.
There was delay in the trial after Salahuddin underwent medical treatment from March this year at Medanta, Gurgaon for his various illnesses. He returned to Shillong to face the trial after the treatment.
The treatment of Salahuddin outside the State was allowed following the recommendation of a medical Board from NEIGRIHMS which submitted a report to the court citing various complications in his health.
