SHILLONG: Focus on the agricultural sector and the application of statistical methods to overcome agricultural problems was elaborated upon at the National Statistics Day, observed to mark the birth anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalonobis, Indian statistician, who was instrumental in formulating the country’s strategy for industrialization in the Second 5 Year Plan (1956-61).
The theme for this year’s observation was “Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare” which is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strategy to develop agriculture to boost the yield and address every farmer’s needs.
The programme was held at the National Sample Survey office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation here on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Senior Statistical Officer Bipul Bordoloi said, “Every year we focus on a certain theme. This year the ministry is focused on agriculture as agricultural statistics is the need of the hour.”
