SHILLONG: Two books, one on the speeches of late political leader P.R Kyndiah and the other on Meghalaya, were released by Speaker A.T Mondal and Health Minister Roshan Warjri on Friday.
The first book, ‘P.R Kyndiah: As I know Him’, is written by Andrew Simons, Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, and the other, ‘Meghalaya’, is by Phibakhamti Ryngnga, faculty member of the Department of Geography, NEHU, and Siddeshwar Sarma, retired faculty member of the Department of Geography, NEHU.
Commenting on his book, Simons said, “The book contained the speeches on issues confronting the State at that time made by veteran legislator Kyndiah in the Meghalaya Legislative Assemble. The book is a tribute to him.”
Simons said the book is the result of his close association with late Kyndiah, who was MP for three consecutive terms.
Highlighting on the book ‘Meghalaya’, Ryngnga said, “The book covered all aspects of culture, geography, urban and rural studies. It took four years of painstaking hard work of making research. The book caters to a wide range of readers — students, scholars, in other words to suit every reader without compromising the quality of the book.”
Later, speaking to reporters she said in Meghalaya, the new thrust in the development field is rural tourism.
Commenting on Simons’ book, Mondal said, “Late Kyndiah is a legend, his name will be written in golden letters. He would give me tips on how to conduct the Assembly proceedings, I feel like a disciple of a great philosopher. The book will help future legislators of the state.”
On the book ‘Meghalaya’, he said, “The authors have compiled the data with care and clarity and it will be helpful for people. It is the first edition written after the creation of new 4 new districts. We are hopeful for the next edition.”
