Nongpoh: Certain discrepancies have crept up with the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) at Nongpoh Village Employment Council (VEC) under Umling C & RD Block. According to an RTI filed by a local, it was revealed that the VEC members had forged his signature (Job Card No. 4203) along with two other job card holders having Serial No. 4817 and 4818, in the muster roll for withdrawing wages which they never received.
An aggrieved job card holder, Hubert Marwein, in a press release, informed that based on his RTI, the Block Development Officer of Umling C & RD Block has constituted an enquiry.
He also informed that as per the enquiry report received from the BDO office, it was found that the VEC members of Nongpoh headed by the then headman, Bul Lyngdoh as Chairman and S. Mynsong as Secretary including Madhuri Sweetly as one of the office bearers, had forged his signature along with two of his relatives, but so far, action is yet to be taken against the erring VEC members.
Based on the findings of the enquiry report, the Block Development Officer of Umling C & RD Block has directed the VEC members to refund the wages and the job card be returned to its owners.
However, the VEC is yet to comply with the directives of the BDO, Marwein said.
Marwein also expressed concerned that even after such anomalies has surfaced, the Block Development Officer of Umling C & RD Block has not taken any actions against the erring members.
He also added that it is a direct deprivation of the right of a job card holder and it is also in violation of the norms and guidelines of the scheme.
Marwein further urged the concerned higher authority to intervene and also to conduct further enquiry into this matter so that the persons involved should be punished as per the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005.
