Syiem ‘happy with colleagues for reposing faith in him’
SHILLONG: There was no drama or surprise in store when the two-day autumn session of the KHADC began here on Tuesday with proceedings of the House going smoothly amid speculations of a possible no-confidence motion against Council CEM P.N Syiem, who was suspended from the Congress.
Speaking to reporters after the session, Syiem, who is the leader of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) coalition, said, “I am happy to see that my colleagues and fellow MDCs have expressed faith in my leadership.”
Terming the Congress MDCs’ support as a historical moment, Syiem said, “The MDCs from the same party that has suspended me continue to express confidence and support my leadership. I can say that it is a welcome change and a new beginning in politics.”
Asserting that he still remains a PDF leader in his individual capacity, he said, “It is an important time for us to be concerned over the issues of the system of politics. We need a new system, a new direction, a new change and a new vision not only in the KHADC but the State as a whole.”
Syiem lamented that lack of political will has spoiled the beautiful state of Meghalaya.
The Congress has suspended Syiem for three years citing anti-party activities.
Five Congress MDCs also resigned following the suspension whereas five others remained with the Congress.
The five Congress members who resigned were Parliamentary Party secretary N Antonio War, Victor Ranee, Hadrian Lyngdoh, Albinus Lyngdoh and Banteidor Lyngdoh.
The five who are still with the Congress are P.T Sawkmie, Donovan Wahlang, Manstudy Nongrem, Lamphrang Blah and Jansing Tynsong.
