JOWAI: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed at Lyngkhat BOP on Wednesday seized 11.82 lakh Taka (Bangladeshi currency) but failed to nab the person carrying the large sum of cash.
According to BSF sources, the accused, believed to be a resident of Ladrymbai in East Jaintia Hills, was attempting to cross over to Bangladesh through Lyngkhat. When BSF troops spotted him he ran towards the border. The BSF jawans managed to grab hold of his bag containing the cash but the accused managed to escape.
The BSF added that since there is no border fencing at Lyngkhat, it is easy for any miscreant to cross the border and commit illegal activities.
