SHILLONG: Mukul Sangma on Wednesday awarded stipends to 110 students under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and Counselling Scheme, through the Union Ministry of Minorities, at a function held at U Soso Tham Auditorium.
Addressing the gathering that comprised mostly students, the chief minister said the scheme, which goes beyond the ambit of coaching, is to help the youths realise their dreams of building career based on their skills.
The chief minister also stressed on the importance of looking at all the options available while preparing for a career. The format of the programme will be restructured soon to make it an effective mechanism to respond to students’ demands and to ensure that it reaches all parts of the state, he said.
Speaking on recruitment in various government departments and services, the chief minister said, “While correcting the perceived manipulations in the system which give scope to a lot of corruption, we are also sensitive to the dreams of the youth so that hopelessness does not set in.”
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith M. Sangma said many youths under the programme have benefited from the scheme making them on a par with youths from other parts of the country and helping them in making the right career choice.
The Chief Minister’s Career Guidance and Counselling Scheme was launched in 2012.
Mukul Sangma also distributed a token cheque to the 110 beneficiaries under the Central Minorities Scholarships during the programme.
