Kathin Chibordaan held

SHILLONG: Homage to the martyrs of the recent Uri terror attacks in Jammu & Kashmir and floral tribute to Mother Teresa marked the Kathin Chibordaan, a festival of highest sacrifice of Buddhist faith, here on Sunday.
Khurana Shastri, founder of the International Brotherhood Mission, and Buddhist monks Bodhishree, Banasara Mahathero,  Bodiratna Mahathero and  Jotipal Vikkhu, were present at the festival.
Devotees donated ochre robes to the visiting monks as per tradition who in turn offered spiritual discourses to the faithful. The festival highlights the importance of sacrifice in life and hence devout Buddhists offer prayers at the Buddha Temple at Polo Hills and donated generously.
Buddhist faithful also lighted candles, donated books, pens, notebooks, brooms, tied sacred threads and offered money to ‘Kalpataru’ or the wishing tree, which they believe fulfils wishes.
A prayer for world peace and prosperity was also performed by the visiting monks. The festival is comes after the conclusion of the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashwin.
