Local Dorbar, police ‘not concerned’

SHILLONG: Unabated sale of liquor in Mawblei area of the city continues with the local authorities and police turning a blind eye to the menace which is posing danger to the society in no uncertain terms.
The recent arrest of a 13-year-old girl on charge of selling liquor exposes the magnitude of the racket that is thriving under the very nose of the Dorbar Shnong and the Madanrting police station, with both found wanting in taking corrective action.
Recently, some residents of the area met East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar on this issue and alleged that their complaints to the local Dorbar and police have fallen on deaf ears.
Despite complaints being lodged with the Madanrting police station and Mawblei Dorbar Shnong, the situation has only turned from bad to worse.
Recently, a protest rally was brought out by the affected residents of Madanrting-Mawblei area to highlight the menace.
When contacted, the deputy commissioner said he has directed the police to conduct routine raids and checking in the areas where the sale of illegal liquor is rampant.
The local headman did not respond to calls made on his phone.
