City celebrates Nepali poet’s birth anniv

SHILLONG: The 108th birth anniversary of legendary poet of Nepali Literature Mahakavi (‘The greatest poet’), Laxmi Prasad Devkota was celebrated on November 6 at Babu Manisingh Gurung Auditorium, Mawprem, Shillong Meghalaya, by All Shillong Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee in collaboration with Nepali Language        Advisory Committee, Sahitya Akademy, Shillong.
Shri Prakash Chettri, a media expert, was the chief guest and Shri Diwakar Pandey and Shri Pema lama were the guest of honour. A multilingual poem           symposium was held in this occasion. Altogether 25 poets took part in this programme. They were honored with shraddha(a traditional muffler) and participation certificate.
C.M Adhikari , member of Sahitya Akademy gave a vivid description about Devkota’s contribution for the upliftment of Nepali literature in the global sphere. Dinesh  Sharma, former secretary , while welcoming all, paid his respect to Devkota for bringing the Nepali language at par with other Asian Languages.
