Irregularities surface in MGNREGS implementation

SHILLONG: Irregularities have once again come to the fore in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the state.
One Stowing Myrthong lodged a complaint that between November 4 and 19 last year, one Hilford K Lyngdoh, chairman, Tynhiang VEC in West Khasi Hills and Khwerling Lyngkhoi, secretary of the VEC along with Bistarland Parion, chairman of Tynhiang village and Brekstar Lyngkhoi, secretary of the village, forged the signatures of muster rolls under MGNREGS.
In another incident, P.R. Sangma, BDO & Programme Officer, MGNREGS, Selsella C&RD Block in West Garo Hills lodged a complaint that during verification on October 4 and 5, it was found that one Motior Hussain of Sarakpara obtained job card under Patharkata VEC without official verification and valid document.
On examining his job card, it transpired that the accused had obtained the same illegally.
