Illicit liquor seized from city restaurant

SHILLONG: With a view to restrict the sale of illicit liquor, the staff of Sadar Police station on Thursday conducted a raid and recovered 59185 ml of IMFL of different brands from Namgyal Dorjee(38), proprietor of Aqua Restaurant, near Dreamland Arcade, Police Bazaar.
Police said that though the restaurant had licence to run the bar prior to the supreme Court ruling banning sale of liquor within certain proximity of religious and educational institutions, they still continued to do business thereby violating law.
The owner who was arrested will be forwarded to court for facing trial as per Meghalaya Excise Act and Meghalaya Police Act. .
