TURA: A special three-day religious celebration to mark fifty years of the Garo Baptist Women’s convention also known in the Garo language as the A’chik Baptist Me’chikrangni Dal’gipa Krima (ABMDK)is underway since Friday at Tura with hundreds of delegates from different corners of Garo Hills coming to attend this unique event at the Mission Compound field where Bible study, worship and workshops are taking place daily including a special evening service.
Some of the programs taken up by the convention include seminars and intensive counselling for young girls and providing of scholarships for girls for theological studies. Most recently, the ABMDK had met the surrendered militants of the UALA and presented each one with a copy of the holy Bible. The convention has also taken up a campaign to safeguard the environment by undertaking extensive tree plantation programmes.
The golden jubilee celebrations began with an opening ceremony on Friday evening and the release of a souvenir to mark its fifty years by Garo Baptist Convention president Rodrick D Shira.
