TURA: The SSALP&UP School Teachers’ Association has announced the holding of a silent peace rally in Tura on December 15 in protest against the failure of the State Government to enhance their salaries in accordance with the amount already approved by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD).
The meeting of the Approval Board of the SSA was held on April 22 this year in New Delhi in which, the MHRD had approved the proposed enhanced amount.
As per the approval, the enhanced salary for upper primary and lower primary SSA teachers is Rs 20,493 and Rs 19,044 respectively.
However, the State Government in a new notification issued recently decided to release the enhanced salary amount of Rs 14,392 for upper primary teachers and Rs 13,335 for lower primary teachers.
While the new salary amount proposed by the State Government was accepted recently by the Meghalaya Sarva Siksha Abhyan School Association (MSSASA), the SSALP&UPSTA has strongly opposed it and also condemned the MSSASA’s decision to accept the amount.
The association also demanded a raise in salary of the 4th teachers who are currently receiving a meagre Rs 6000.
The silent peace rally scheduled for December 15 will begin from Chandmary Playground and culminate at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
