Youths bring laurels to State sans govt assistance

Nongpoh: The Khasi Students Union, North Khasi Hills District on Saturday felicitated six youths who brought laurels to the State by winning various categories at the recently held 2nd World Martial Arts Council (WMAC) held in Jamia Millia Islamia University Sports Complex, Delhi upon their arrival at Nongpoh.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by KSU NKHD chief, Ferdynald Kharkamni, Joseph Lambok Rymbai, general secretary and other members of the Union.
Thomas Rongthaluh won a gold medal in Taolu and a bronze medal in Kungfu, Khrawbok Marwein bagged gold in Kick-Boxing, Low-Kick (53 Kg Category), Scolis Manih won a silver medal in Kungfu, Jarmin Sangma won gold in the 55 Kg category, Aibanrilang P Mylliemumlong bagged a silver medalist in the 55 Kg Category and Bilson Thangkhiew bagged a bronze medal in the 44 Kg Kick Boxing categoty.
It may be mentioned here that the mega event was participated by MMA fighters from 16 different countries.
President of Meghalaya Kungfu Association (MKA), Thomas Rongthaluh informed media persons that the six local youths of the state participated in the WMAC under the banner of MKA.
He also said that the event was held to tap potential talents from the State in the field of martial arts, adding that they participated in the event without any financial assistance from the Government.
Kharkamni while speaking on the felicitation ceremony expressed his gratitude to the fighters for their hard work and dedication which has brought laurels to the State despite lack of financial assistance by the government.
Kharkamni also expressed concern that till date, the government has no policy to uplift and extend assistance to sports person of the state which has put their future in the dark, adding that their winning performance has shown that youths from the State are not far behind others from different countries of the world.
Kharkamni also urged the state government to immediately look into the welfare and benefit of the youths by implementing proper sports policy to uplift the talented youths in various field of sports.
