SHILLONG: Several residents and business establishments in Police Bazar continue to be at the receiving end of the noise emanated by air conditioners installed in the MUDA shopping complex which have not been replaced despite several complaints.
The Member Secretary of Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) on October 6, 2016, wrote to the Secretary of MUDA that it has received complaint of noise being emanated from 12 ACs installed (on the western side) in the MUDA shopping complex.
The Board has conducted inquiry in this connection and has requested that necessary instructions be issued from MUDA to the tenants to relocate the ACs to an alternate site in consultation with the Board to avoid any inconvenience to the general public.
This was in response to a complaint filed by Sk Md Aman, resident of Police Bazaar (Dedar Market Building). The monitoring was conducted on September 9, 12, 14, and 15. Some of the notable observations as found during the course of inquiry was that there is a marked and distinguishable sound that is emanating from the AC machines during the entire monitored time intervals on all the days (September 9, 12, 14, and 15).
The report said that the sound was distinct and pronounced even within the premises of the complainant.
Sk Md Aman also filed an RTI in this regard.
