BSF arrests liquor smuggler, seizes cattle

SHILLONG: The BSF troops deployed at Baburambil in West Garo Hills apprehended a teenage Bangladeshi liquor smuggler on the international border while he was trying to cross over to Bangladesh.
The arrested person was identified as Barnath Marak (18), resident of a village in Sherpur, Bangladesh. A mobile phone, eight bottles of liquor and Rs 2,440 cash in Indian currency were found from his possession. In another incident, BSF troops deployed at Lukaichar and Balughat, South West Garo Hills and at Nayabazar, East Khasi Hills seized 71 cattle worth Rs 7.8 lakh (approximately) while being smuggled to Bangladesh.Besides, the BSF troops seized 251 cattle, one gecko, 2,546 bottles of liquor and other contraband items worth over Rs 59 lakh last week.
